Description
The musical tradition of the Catholic Church is a treasure that has shaped the artistic and architectural design of churches and cathedrals. Music and sacred singing are indispensable parts of the liturgy and are prominently represented in the Cathedral. "The Choir and Music at the Center of the Cathedral" is a visit that specifically centers around the choir, located in the central nave and preserved from the old cathedral. The tour reveals the artistic value of the choir, the arrangement of the seats for the Chapter, bishop, king and queen, and the lectern still holding the choir books used for singing during liturgy. It also showcases the two large organs on either side, the Gospel and Epistle organs, fine examples of Spanish Baroque organ building. Fun fact: did you know that the Cathedral features 287 elements of musical iconography distributed among paintings, frescoes, sculptures, tapestries, stained glass windows, and wood or stone reliefs? The musical representations throughout the Segovia Cathedral highlight the important role of music throughout history, particularly in Christianity. From its founding by Christ, the Church placed music at the center, granting it the role of transmitting the Christian message and the Gospel, as well as serving to praise God and reflect divine beauty through this universal language.
